Last chance

Okay, I'm giving Jennifer Crusie another try. I've only read one of her books before now and I have to say, I hated it. I didn't like the hero or heroine. I didn't like "the bad guy" (in fact I HATED the bad guy) and I didn't much like the friend, that recommended the book, for a while. In fact, I haven't read - or finished - a book she's recommended since then.

Anyway, I've heard such wonderful things about Ms Crusie's books and I want to give her another chance. And she was so funny accepting her Rita in Reno. My local RWA chapter sells member donated books at their meetings for $1 to raise money to buy the speaker's books to give as giveaways at our meetings. They had Ms. Crusie's Strange Bedpersons at one meeting so I snatched it up.

But this is it. If I have the same "I wanna beat the shift outta someone" feeling when I finish this book as I did the last one, I won't read another of her books - ever, except under threat of severe torture. So, if you know this is the wrong one of her books for me to read to get the warm fuzzies, STOP ME NOW, before I start it.

Lucy,

which Crusie book did you read that you hated? I've never read Bedfellows, so I can't recommend it, but I've loved her books that I have read (Bet Me and Faking It) Oh, dear. I hope it's not one of those!

Woops, that's Strange Bedpersons, not Bedfellows. That's what I get for blogging at 3 am!

I've not seen Strange Bedpersons before. Hmmm? Not sure I could recommend it either.

I love Crusie on audiobook--maybe hearing it read with the emphasis on the funny stuff helps me to appreciate her humor more. I can't remember if I've actually read one in paperback.

I'm with Maria--liked the 2 she recommended plus Welcome to Temptation. Which means the one you hated is probably amoung those 3. LOL!

Maria,

I didn't even notice you typed Bedfellows until you corrected. I will say, I had typed the same thing and had to change it so....

And no, it's not any of those y'all have mentioned. I will email you both the name of the book I didn't like.

L, I've read Strange Bedpersons. It didn't strike me as her very best work, and if I remember correctly, there was something in it that agitated me a great deal. It's one of her earlier novels, and like most novelists, I've found that I like her newer books more than I like her older books.

Yep, just checked, that's the one that had a twist I didn't quite follow or agree with, but could be fun. Honestly, if you're giving Crusie a second chance, I'd go with Faking It or Bet Me first. Both are excellent IMO, but again, that's just my opinion. :) I also rather enjoyed Welcome to Temptation.

Honey,

So, I should set this book aside for now and read something else until I can get either Bet Me or Faking It? I have a gift card that can be used a number of places but I planned on using it at B&N. I could make one of those one of the books I pick up.

My personal preference is Bet Me over Strange Bedpersons, and I'd hate for you to get turned off a great book in Bet Me if Strange Bedpersons doesn't do it for you. So, yes, my advice would be to hold off on Strange Bedpersons for now. :)

I've never been able to read one of her books but I love to listen to her give a workshop.

Good luck on reading Faking It or which ever book you choose, L.

I'll be keeping toes crossed.
