Dentists vs. Housekeepers

It's official. I've given in. I'm hiring a housekeeper to come clean my house this weekend. The dust bunnies have dust bunnies and it's time some serious attention is given to it - and I don't want to do it so I've called in the experts.

But here's the deal...I'm sitting in my living room thinking "can I let them see my living room like this? maybe I should pick up a little." Then I go into the bedroom and think "there's two inches of dust on the dresser, maybe I should just dust a little." Bathroom "I really use it when it looks like this??? I can't let anyone else see it like this...I'll just scrub the toilet...and the bathtub...and the floor."

Then I think, "why am I going to pay them to clean my house if I'm going to clean it first?" That is, after all, why I'm hiring them. Right?

So I did an informal poll at work, asking people if they had someone come out to clean their house, would they "clean" before the housekeepers got there?

The majority said no, that that is why you were paying them. It was their job to clean - don't do it for them.

One person started giving me a lecture on that point so finally I looked at her and said, "Okay then. Answer me this. Do you brush your teeth before you go to the dentist?"

She looked at me like I'd grown a third breast or something and said, "Yes. Of course!"

"Why?" I asked. "Aren't you paying him to clean your teeth? Doesn't that mean you're doing his job for him?"

Funny, she didn't have a quick comeback for that.

LMAO! The few times I've hired a housekeeper, I've cleaned the house first. :) Boy did I get teased for that by dh, but I didn't want the housekeeper to think I was a pig. LOL. I should probably hire a housekeeper just so that I'll clean. :)

Anyway, I think you're perfectly normal. LOL.

My mom always cleaned before the housekeeper came. Drove me nuts.

But me, no way. If I ever hire a housekeeper (much needed, just not afforded) then by god, she gets paid to clean. Not clean on top of my clean...

This is the first time I will have actually had someone come out to do the cleaning. Part of it is the expense and part of it is I always want to clean before they come - which defeats the purpose. Way back when I was married, my ex and I decided to hire someone and we had them out to interview them. We scrubbed our house down from top to bottom and then told them we didn't need them after all.

This is why I don't have someone come to clean my house, because yes, the few times I have hired a housekeeper, I've cleaned up before. Sigh...

LOL! I would love to have a housekeeper, then I'd know the house was cleaned better than I have time or energy for.

Hi L! Long time no see.

Thought I'd stop by and say hi and let you know what I've been doing. My Dh is off to war, literally, he's going to Iraq soon. I've been running back and forth to the doctors trying to figure out why I'm having health problems. And I'm officially getting granted the mantle of newsletter writer for my local Family Readiness Group, all this and writers block too.

Hope to stop by more often.

Adios!
