Check this out
I've blogged about Roula and Ryan's Roses before where someone who thinks their significant other may be stepping out on them can test that by seeing who they would send roses to. Well, they've started posting the session online the day of the thing. So, every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until midnight, it can be listened to.
Today's was really interesting and can be heard here until midnight tonight. In a nutshell, the girl said she'd gotten an STD from her supposed monogamous boyfriend and wanted to see who he would send roses to so she could possibly find out who else he was sleeping with. Long story short, he wouldn't play along so they had to tell him who they were and he said she was a psycho and then she said she was pregnant (and no one believed her). It was pretty wild. So, if you come across this today (Thursday), you should check it out. It comes in three parts, just click on them and you'll hear the whole thing.
In other news, I saw on the news the other day where you can have books emailed to you daily. Some are free, some are for a fee but I found it interesting and thought I'd pass it along. You can check it out here.

Men are from Mars
Today is Thursday and as I drove into work I was listening to Roula and Ryan's Roses on the radio. I've blogged about that before but how it works is that if a relationship is in trouble (or one of the parties think it's in trouble) they contact the radio station and, if selected, Roula will contact the other party of the relationship and pretend to be starting up a floral business and offer them a dozen free red roses to see who they will be sent to, while the person who contacted the radio station listens in. Once they say who they're sending the flowers to and make out a card, they're let in on what is going on and the two parties air their dirty laundry on the radio. It's kind of sad but it's one of those things I just have to listen to on Thursdays.
Anyway, this morning the guy they called was familiar with the program and knew exactly who was putting them up to calling. And he was furious. He broke up with the girl on the radio and accused her of trying to push marriage on him. She said she didn't want to get married that she was only 25 and she seemed fine with the breakup. Usually they take calls from listeners to get their take on the situation...was the other party lying, etc.
Well today was different. Instead of their usual calls from listeners the topic went to talk of guys assuming girls have an agenda when they don't. Why do men assume all women are marriage minded? I found it quite interesting because that does seem to be the case. It seems if we smile at a man, he assumes we're coming on to them when really we're just being polite. We accept a date and they assume we're planning the wedding.
I dated someone a couple of years ago who was making - or trying to make - plans for us months in advance. It was freaking me out because he was assuming we'd still be together that far out and I wanted to take things one day/date at a time. And then he mentioned that he was concerned that I was wanting more from the relationship than he did...that maybe I was getting too serious. About the third time he said that to me I asked him what the heck he was talking about because I needed to know from what he was getting that vibe from because I was NOT looking at the long term. And just in case he didn't believe me, I broke up with him at the end of that date.
So what's up with that? Anyone have any thoughts on why men think the slightest gesture means we're in love and marriage bound? If you do, please share them because I'd really like to know.

Roses Day
So, I was listening to Roula & Ryan's Roses this morning and the situation was that this couple had been in a relationship for 2.5 years I think she said. They're 18 or 19 (even though the form says you have to be 21 to play) and currently live in different areas because of college. They've been having a long-distant relationship for a while now and he spent the summer in summer school so they didn't really see each other. He was supposed to come down this past weekend but he called and cancelled so she had Roula call him and offer him roses to see who he would send them to.
So, Roula calls and a woman answers. She sounds like she was asleep when the call came in. They ask for the boyfriend and she, groggily, says "it's for you" and the guy picks up. He also sounds like he just woke up. Anyway, Roula does her spiel and offers him roses and he happily accepts. When they tell him they can be sent anywhere he tells them to send them there - to his dorm. Roula says okay then asks for a name and a greeting for the card. He gives the name of someone other than the girlfriend and the girlfriend immediately jumps in (which she's not supposed to do, by the way).
The guy was livid that she'd had the radio station call him and said he'd talk to her off the radio and hung up without further discussion. The girlfriend, at this point, is sobbing uncontrollably. They talk to her for a minute and then let her go and open the discussion up for the DJs and then callers (which I didn't get to hear but one).
The DJs were hung up on the age thing and college saying what the guy was doing was to be expected and to have a long-distant relationship when you're that young isn't really realistic.
I don't remember what the caller I did hear said but all I could think was DID NO ONE ELSE PICK UP ON THE PHONE BEING ANSWERED BY ANOTHER WOMAN????? WHO SOUNDED LIKE THE PHONE HAD WOKE HER UP??? AND THAT THE BOYFRIEND WAS RIGHT THERE?
I don't know, it was just kinda weird to me. But, I guess in the long run, at least now the girl knows...time to move on.

Suspicious Minds
I've been trying to blog more consistently but some days nothing comes to me. Other days I have lots of ideas but have to settle on one. Today is one of those days (where I have more than one idea).
Anyway, today I wanted to blog on this segment they have on my local radio station. It's called Roula & Ryan's Roses. What happens is someone writes/emails in telling them why they think their significant other may be cheating on them. I have no idea how many letters/emails they get on this but every Thursday morning they take one and do their bit. Their bit being that they (well Roula) call the supposed cheating party and tell them that they've randomly been selected to receive a dozen long stem red roses that can be sent anywhere in the US within 24 hours, for free. She goes on to tell them that it's a promotional thing for her new business "plantsandflowers.com" and that her hope is that the flowers will be so great that they will consider doing business with her in the future, should they have a need. In most cases the supposed cheating party will accept the roses.
The whole time Roula is giving her spiel, the person who wrote in is listening in. They've been instructed not to jump in until after they've gotten the name and note for the card and Ryan has jumped in to say they are listening in.
Okay, so this morning's "couple" was a young married couple. The husband (named Fred) works for a company who takes its employees on all expense paid trips (I missed the part of why they do but I don't think it's important to the story). This weekend the company was paying for its employees to spend the long weekend (four days total) in Jamaica. Fred told his wife (whose name I don't remember) that spouses weren't invited this time. She was concerned because he works with a lot of attractive women and they would be at a place where those attractive women would be scantily clad. Not to mention that he's recently been putting in really long hours and their sex life is virtually non-existent of late. She "needed" to know who he would send the flowers to.
So Roula called. He accepted the flowers. He said he wanted them to go to Jennifer (funny how I remember HER name, huh? anyway) and the card to read (and he said this in a very seductive voice) something like "I can't wait until this weekend" or "I'm looking forward to this weekend".
At that point Ryan jumped in and told him what was going on. His wife jumps in and asks him what's going on, why would he send flowers to Jennifer and not her? He starts saying that Jennifer has been working really hard and he wanted to show his appreciation for all her hard work - that he wouldn't have survived (at work) without her that past couple of months. The wife starts whining that she was going to be home alone all weekend and she doesn't understand why he didn't send them to her. He goes on to point out that he spent $300 on a spa day for her and that should be enough.
Meanwhile, Ryan is jumping in going "Dude, the greeting on the card was (whatever it was). And it was red roses. Red usually signifies love!" Fred defends himself saying he had no idea what would be sent (Roula does say a dozen red roses, by the way) and he just wanted to recognize Jennifer's hard work. Roula is being uncharacteristically quiet and Ryan shuts up at this time.
The wife starts apologizing to Fred, saying she was just feeling a little insecure and hopes he will forgive her for doing this to him on the radio. She then, in a young child happy voice tells Fred, "If you come home early tonight I'll cook all your favorites, okay?!" Ryan, incredulous, jumps back in and says, "(her name - whatever it is), you're believing him?" She said she was so he tells them he's going to let them take it offline and they get the couple off the air.
As soon as they get the couple off the air, Roula jumps in and says, "Ohmigod! I had to hold my reaction but I cannot believe she was buying that! He was so LYING!" Roula and Ryan discussed their feelings about it (they do that each week, and then take listener calls) and they both believed he was lying out his backside but that they didn't press it because they believed the wife was one of those people who didn't want to know/believe the truth. All the callers I heard agreed.
So, my question to you is, you have a sneaking suspicion that your significant other may be getting some action on the side and when given the opportunity, s/he sends roses to someone else. How would you react?
